What Is Mental Health and why is it so important?

Mental health refers to our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act and governs our day to day behaviour and relationships. It also helps determine how we cope with stress, relate to others, and make choices in our life. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood and adolescence through adulthood so it is important to pay attention to it.

Over the course of your life, if you experience mental health problems, your thinking, mood, and behaviour could be affected. Many factors can influence mental health problems, including:

  • Biological factors, such as genes or brain chemistry.
  • A person’s Life experiences, such as trauma or abuse.
  • A past family history of mental health problems.
